The Barbican looks especially beautiful in Spring but this picture shows that even the service road under the main entrance is rather wonderful without a flower in sight.

This is the Poultry Market. A replacement for the 1860s building destroyed by fire, it is very difficult to see the thin concrete roof properly except from the top of a nearby building. The Barbican YMCA has one of the best fire escapes in the City. This is at the rear of the building, easily viewed from the Barbican flats. It’s a real pity that the current users of this building have so little interest in the design.
