What’s up at the YMCA?

What is to become of this building?  The YMCA in Fann Street and on the edge of the Barbican Estate is looking worse for wear.  Scaffolding has been erected along the base but not the sort that suggests it is about to be improved but the sort that suggests things might be in danger of falling off and should be caught before they land on someone’s head.  It is a building with lots of great attributes.  The fire escape is magnificent and the internal staircase rather beautiful but, for now it looks forlorn.  The concrete is water-stained, the windows look fragile and the scaffodling makes me want to walk past quite quickly.
